Scandinavian living room ideas
This room started with a dark leather sectional, cherry wood tables and heavy floral drapes. The redesign lightened it with a warm white linen sectional, pale blond oak, oat linen and wool, and a single dusty sage accent. One photo went in, the app ran once, and the result is shown exactly as it came out.
The palette
Warm white, oat and a touch of sage.
Named in the design brief the app wrote for this room; the strip is sampled from the result itself.
- Warm whitethe sectional and the ceramic lamp base
- Oat linenthe curtain panels and the large rug
- Pale blond oakthe round coffee table and the side table
- Soft charcoalonly the slim curtain rods
- Dusty sagethe cushion and the folded throw
What changed
- The dark leather sectional became a warm white linen L-shaped sectional with square arms, raised on slim tapered wooden legs.
- The cherry coffee table and its magazine stacks gave way to a low, round pale oak coffee table on three splayed legs, with one white ceramic bowl.
- The floral drapes and valances were replaced by plain oat linen panels on slim charcoal rods, with the white sheers kept behind them.
- The dark side table by the back wall became a pale wood side table with a single drawer, holding a matte white ceramic lamp with a linen drum shade.
- The end table and telephone at the left and the small dark table by the doorway were removed, leaving open floor.
- A large oat wool flatweave rug with an ivory border went down, and a dusty sage cushion and fringed throw were added to the sofa.
Get the look
Go light at floor level
Put the palest tones on the biggest low surfaces: sofa, rug and coffee table. With light pieces sitting low, the room reads brighter under the same daylight.
Use one muted accent
A single soft colour such as dusty sage, on a cushion and a throw, adds warmth without breaking the calm. Keep everything else in whites, oats and pale wood.
Lift furniture on legs
Sofas and tables on slim tapered legs show the floor beneath them, which makes a room feel airier than pieces that sit flat on the ground.
